The IBM Model F, with its capacitive buckling spring switches, is considered by some to be the grandfather and pinnacle of mechanical keyboard greatness.

These switches activate about halfway through the keypress, and offer a feeling that is completely unique in the world of mechanical keyboards.  Activating the spacebar requires a little more force than the other keys.
